In Turkeybuilding fires have occurred frequently throughout history, causing serious losses and still continuing. However, it is a scientific fact that these losses can be largely prevented by taking fire safety measures. In our country, with the "The Fire Safety Building Regulation" (BYKHY) issued in 2007, bringing existing buildings into compliance with these regulations and constructing new buildings according to these standards can help prevent building fires to a great extent. For a safe working system, the whole fire protection system needs to be tested periodically so that the system works better in case of an emergency. In this study, the compliance of Gümüşhane University Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences (MDBF) building with the criteria specified in the regulation was examined under 14 different heading lists. In addition, risk analysis was carried out by applying Fine Kinney method in the headings where deficiencies were detected. After the examinations, it was determined that the building meets the criteria specified in the regulation in 5 headings and there are some deficiencies in the other 9 headings. The risk analysis revealed that especially areas such as escape stairs, emergency lighting, boiler room, external escape stairs and hydrant system contain very high risks. This study emphasises that necessary precautions should be taken to reduce the very high and high risk levels identified in the building or to reduce them to an acceptable level. © 2024, Gumushane University.
