Eu-China relations: Current and future challenges and opportunities

Abstract

While EU-China relations are often characterized by a clear divergence of values and political norms, the scope and size of the relationship between the two sides in the past twenty-five years has been remarkable. The basis of this development lies in the considerable expansion of the economic interaction and substantial growth in trade between the two sides since the early 1990. Relations between the EU and China are now so dense as well as complex. In this study, development of the relations between the EU and China will be discussed and it will also be expressed why and how much this relation is significant for both parties. While doing this, the main factors that enable the relations between the EU and China and that prevent aforementioned relations to deepen will be discussed and opportunities, expectations and problems these bring forth will be mentioned. Thus, this study will try to provide an answer why the EU and China experience significant conflicts and even come across each other from time to time in the recent years will be answered. © Internationaler Verlag der Wissenschaften berlin 2020.
