It has been continuously discussed that changing the system of university selection examination from two phases to one phase has negatively affected the teaching and learning at the high schools. This study has planned to determine the effects of university selection examination on high school physics education. The study was implemented at the city center of Erzurum and Trabzon in the 2000-2001 academic years. Sample consisted of 175 students from different kinds of high schools in Erzurum and 32 physics teachers who have worked in Erzurum and Trabzon. In the content of this study, depth interviews and questionaires were implemented with the sample and achievement tests developed by Ruhi and Mergenci (1990) including both the subject-situated and not situated questions at university selection examination were also implemented to measure the students’ success in two cases. It was concluded that students were very successful on the test which included the questions asked at the university selection examination but unsuccessful at the questions which included the questions not asked at the examination. Interview data showed that they had negative attitudes towards the subject not situated at the examination.
