Akademisyenlerin Instagram Kullanım Alışkanlıkları Üzerine Bir Araştırma

People gain experiences and practices with social media tools and new communication
technologies which make progrress in digital era. Instagram as a social media tool which has a
rich and a different visual structure has become popular shortly after its foundation and it has
become a platform of sharing photos-videos. Besides, Instagram activates the users’ desires
about visibility on social media and being liked. Instagram serves a lot of purposes as
documentation, following, sharing the moment, tastes and feelings with other people,
commercial purposes, creating interaction and society and seeing the sharings of other users. It
is aimed in this study that the determinations about the reasons, frequencies, purposes of using
this social media platform by academicians and the contents of sharings are made. Within this
context, a face to face questionnaire was conducted with the academicians who work in
Gümüşhane University and Cumhuriyet University by using the objective sample method.
Descriptive statistics, mean and cross-tabulation analyzes were used analyze the data. In
consequence of the questionnaire conducted, the academicians prefer sharing their photos, the
photos in which they are with their friends, family members and the other people and the
photos of the places and locations visited on Instagram. It has been found that academicians
rarely use Instagram for academic and scientific information. On the other hand, according to
research results academicians use Instagram to share photos and videos, follow up the agenda
and spend their leisure time. These results reveal that the related social network fulfills
social needs rather than scientific needs.
